It’s almost the end of February, how are we all doing? I caught the Spring bug this week, as the snow is starting to melt and the sun shines more often. But I’m still choosing warmer recipes to make and will be for the foreseeable future.
Some of this week’s recipes are fantastic in my book (Crispy Chickpeas & Lamb, and Bacon-Roasted Pork) and others weren’t up my alley (Fennel & Grapefruit Salad & Pork and Red Chile Stew). But I enjoyed the process of cooking each of them, because that’s why I’m doing this project after all.
Here’s this week’s Reviewed Recipe Round-up:
Bacon-Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Caraway’d Cabbage and Apples
Pork and Red Chile Stew with Tomatillos (written by guest, Jordan)
I was recently chatting with a close friend and the subject of this newsletter came up. She told me that yes, she wants to read about what I’m cooking, but she also wouldn’t mind if I made the newsletter a little more personal. Include some insight into my week or something I learned, perhaps. I realize that not everyone is interested in that sort of thing, and that’s totally okay. But rather than feel self-conscious or apologize for talking about myself (which I’m very tempted to do), I told her I’d give it a shot.
During this week of cooking…
I learned… that cooking lamb doesn’t need to be intimidating. It’s like any other meat, and it is delicious.
I listened to… If you know me, you know I love The Office Ladies podcast. Jenna Fischer (Pam) & Angela Kinsey (Angela) dive into the details of The Office series, one episode at a time. I love their banter and the insight into how the show was made. They’re best friends in real life, and at this point, I’m convinced that I’d fit right in with their girl gang.
I read… A. W. Tozer’s The Pursuit of God. It’s a short book from the 1940’s that explores every human’s innate desire for intimacy with God, and how to cultivate that desire in one’s life. I recently stole this book from my 93-year-old grandmother’s bookshelf. She’s left notes in the margins and plenty of underlinings with a blue pen. I cherish being able to see what stood out to her when she read the book.
I watched… Are You The One? I’m embarrassed to admit it. The contestants are kind of gross, but the drama is so juicy. I could honestly fast forward through the Match-Up Ceremonies. I’m really just here for the Truth Booth.
Do you have reading or listening recommendations? Let me know! Questions about what I’m cooking? Ask away! A favorite Shakespeare quote? I’m here for it! Seriously, I love Shakespeare.
Have a lovely Saturday,
